Seafood at “The First Step” Hajime no Ippo
Wild-caught, fresh-delivered fish and local sake
Dedicated customers come here regularly for the kue (longtooth grouper), buri (yellowtail), hirame (flounder), and other fresh fish directly from fishermen on the islands of Genkaijima and Oronoshima. In summer, the restaurant offers tachiuo (largehead hairtail) and live octopus, while in the winter it serves amadai (tilefish) and torafugu (tiger pufferfish). Fresh fish is available throughout the year and can be enjoyed with a wide range of local sake. Make reservations early, even on weekdays to be assured seats. The goma saba ochazuke set with sesame mackerel is a popular mail-order item.
