Mikawaya

Ryotei ryokan serving etsu and local fish

A restaurant with nearly 150 years of history, dating back to 1876. Experience local cuisine handed down to this day, focusing on fish from the Chikugo River and Ariake Sea. The summer special, etsu (Japanese anchovy), is prepared within 30 minutes of being landed, and many fans of the restaurant look forward to having the dish every year. The light, white meat of the catfish (kawa-anko), served from July to December, is tastier than one would expect of river fish. Accommodations are also available with a meal plan.
